Pentium D 840 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor


Is a computer with the above processor a 32-bit or a 64-bit machine?

64-bit applications??....

Will I ned to use all 64-bit applications, or will it run both? (Is it backward compatible?)

You can run either a 64bit or 32bit system if things like having flash, compatibility with pretty much all the media playing codecs ... most of the media playing works on 64bit but not all so if you want it all 32bit is the way to go. Some distros allow your to run both a 64bit system with 32bit apps I never used any of those though so have no idea how it works perhaps someone else can jump in on that.
