pctel hsp56 Micromodem in redhat 9 kernel 2.4.20-6 not working

Dear linux users,

1) I use redhat linux 9 kernel 2.4.20-6 . My modem as my windows recognizes is pctel hsp56 micromodem
2) i downloaded the driver suggested by scanmodem utitlity..i.e pctel-0.9.7. driver
3) Logged into root account.
4) i installed it according to the readme file. The installation detcted my modem as pct789 and the installation was perfect.
5) i loaded the drivers using insmod -f option...(some warnings were specified..but the modules were loaded). i checked using lsmod
6) i symlinked /dev/modem to /dev/ttyS15
7) now i opened kppp and selected my device as /dev/modem and tried to dial..but it stops at "initializing modem" . I tried the query command in runs and returns a dialog box with empty fields for at1,at2,at3,at4....etc
8)When i pick up the handset of my phone when i click dial...the modem seems to get ON..but is doesn't dial
9) I even tried to unload the sound modules by commenting the 3 lines in /etc/modules.conf
10) all this in vain.

PLease help me if possible..
A million thanks !!!
