PCMCIA trouble

When I am plugging my Linksys WPC54G wireless card in the powerlight is not coming on. I have tried booting with it in. I have also tried putting it in while pc on. I have compiled kernel 2.6.2 and have added pcmcia support. Any ideas why the light is not coming on?
