I sorry that this posting has gotten so far out of hand, and I had no intention of it getting "mess & very argumentative". But I really am trying to understand why the scanner is not functioning, whether its a bad firmware install, or adding changes need to be made to x-scane scanner to use it correctly. below is the lsusb output and cat /proc/filesystems output. Other support pages suggest that nodev usbdevfs has to be running for the kernel to properly handle them?

I was not referring to your post/thread when I;

BTW, this topic is a mess & very argumentative for some. Darn M$ has a headlock on too many vendors.
But towards firmware, both propriety & open source. Microsoft (M$) does have most vendors bound legally thus the problem with getting support for devices with Linux. So much bickering among the vendors. Some do support while others refuse to buck the system for fear of reprisal by M$.

I understand where you are coming from. We should not have drifted thus causing confusion. Again, sorry about the misunderstanding.

The Scanner Howto: General Support and Interface Type should provide some understanding. Heck, the whole HOWTO is informational.

You will get there!

Hi,

@tcd1971
It's your choice to remove content from your posts. Look at from the members who did particiapate and invest time.Your deletion(s) changed content thus any help that would possibly provided to others has been mangled thus not useful.

Sorry you feel the time was wasted and you were not provided turn key solution(s). Your non-interaction or attempts to perform suggested material to get the device(s) functional. You did not attempt to use any of the device to see if indeed there actually is a problem. This not a help desk but help provided by volunteers to help other LQ Linux members to have help in solving any issues.

You have responsibilities to invest in getting things done. We will help you to help yourself. You don't even know if any of the devices are working or not.

Sorry you feel the need to give up. You will not get the answers you wish without some work on your part.

By not testing the device, you will not know if indeed there is a problem.
