pclinuxos 2007 and sound issues

Hello. I'm pretty new to Linux but have test driven some of the other distros out there like Fedora, Ubuntu, Knoppix, PCLinuxOS 2007, etc...so I decided to go with PCLinux 2007. So far I like it a lot as it appears to be a complete distro in addition to the ratings it has received thus far. However, what I am experiencing is a degradation of the sound quality between the OS, my hardware and the drivers. I am running it on a Toshiba Satellite w/ Intel Centrino Core Duo, 2gb ram, SRS TruSurround XT audio.

Has anyone experienced this issue and fixed or found a fix for it?

I'm aware that others are having audio problems with this distro as well although there issue is no sound at all unlike my problem.

All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Try turning all the volume controls down just a fraction below maximum: it may just be that it's outputting a little too much power for the speakers.

If that doesn't fix it, we'll need to know a little more about your setup and the nature of the problem.

Fuzzy, that's not it. It works fine with other distros and windows. It's definitely a driver issue. Thanks anyway.

In that case, we'll need a bit more information, including details of your setup and the sound system you are using.

Did you try turning the volume down a bit on all channels - it may still just be that the particular drivers you are using are putting out too much power?

I did try turning down the channel volume but no luck. I'm not exactly sure of the sound adapter but it's a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4334 laptop w/ Intel Centrino Duo Core which has the SRS TruSound XT. Toshiba doesn't specify the maker of the sound so that's been my challenge. I'm still trying to research the drivers.

Have a Happy New Years!!!
