PCI-X and S-ATA

Hi folks,

From computer articles they mentioned that;

PCI-X shall replace PCI
and
Serial-ATA shall replace ATA

Kindly advise what are the difference between

1) PCI-X and PCI
2) S-ATA and ATA

TIA

B.R.

SATA: Serial ATA. Transports data serially (in contrast to the parallel ATA). I think it is faster.

Hi

Tks for your advice.

Can those old motherboards for ATA133/ATA100/ATA66 support S-ATA hard drive?

You will need an expansion card. They are very different (just look at the cables).

PCI-X stands for PCI Express. It's a very fast bi-directional bus that will replace PCI in the same way PCI replaced ISA and other standards. Unlike SATA, it's not currently available, although ATI and Nvidia apparently have graphics cards waiting in the wings ready.

I read from articles that PCI-X will be ready in about half year. They further advise that if not in an immediate need to upgrade our hardware we better wait until the birth of PCI-X. Thereafter PCI will disappear from markets.

I saw SATA hard drives on markets. Where can information of the interface card be found.

TIA

Hi

I saw SATA hard drives already available on markets. Their price is lower than ATA drives on equal storage capacity, speed and cache memory. Kindly advise where can I find information of SATA interfacc card.

TIA
