Dave, your the man... You were right.... I can play CD's through Xine... hmmmm.... I'm going to run an lsmod and copy it somewhere.... I'll post back if anything changes... Thanks man...

Very odd that you can's hear the events sounds. I've never known the KDE control center to particularly reliable, though.

If xine can play cds then your sound set up must be basically OK. It's probably a problem with 'arts'. arts is the system KDE uses to play event sounds etc, and it's the cause of more stress than anything else I've had to deal with to do with sound.

Anyway, I'm glad it's working.
