PCI Sata Raid controler
Hello There,
I'm looking desperately for a PCI SATA Raid contoler compatible with Linux obviously. I've the following Motherboard " Mini-ITX Express Motherboard with VIA chipset: ref: J7F2WE1G2E http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/ipcboard...ame=J7F2WE1G2E Most of the RAID controller are for PCI-Express, but I'm looking for a RAID card with a PCI "V5 32Bit PCI card" which could fit in my motherboard. Does anyone know where could I found a comprehensive list of such compatible hardware? (Most of the one I've found are really messy, not clear or incomplete) Best regards, Angel. |
I have used SATA RAID PCI 2.2 Cards (64 Bit) in a board that had only 32bit slots before.. If you call the manufacturer you may discover a lot of these cards will work in older boards. Although the motherboard you have chosen is rather small, and it looks like the electrolytic caps at the end of the PCI slot would be in the way for this type of solution.
both LSI and 3ware are well supported in Linux but neither has a 32bit card. This is from one of the LSI SATA RAID Controller manuals. Code:
* Complies with PCI 2.2 Specifcation This is the only way I have found to use most hardware based RAID controllers in systems that only have a old style 33Mhz PCI slot. Best of luck in your search. |
Hi Farslayer,
Thanks a lot for that, I'll give it a try. Angel. |

I've bought a 3Ware 9500S-8 and it's working perfectly on a V5 32Bit PCI slot. Using freeNAS, no issue so far. I hope this will help. Best regards, Angel |
Glad that worked out for you :)
