PCI IRQ's VIA 333 Chipset Award BIOS
Hello,
I have a Soyo Dragon KT333 Ultra system board which
has an ATI 8500DV video card as well. I also have an
Adaptec 2940 SCSI card in this system.
My problem is the fact that even though I disabled the
serial ports and parallel port to get their IRQ's, I am finding
that the BIOS is sharing IRQ's among quite a few of the
devices. Specifically, the Video's Firewire port is being
shared with the onboard NIC, and I have found that if I
try to do video capture from my camcorder the machine will
randomly lock up. Almost as bad as W2K. I tested my
theory about the NIC by unloading the driver, and unplugging
the cable, and then trying the capture, and then it worked
without crashing the system.
How do I force this brain damaged BIOS to let <ME> assign
the IRQ's??
I did try an experimental kernel that supposedly has in it
patches to let the pciutils configure the IRQ's, That kernel
doesn't even boot completely (what do you expect from
experimental?? :-)
This board has on board sound, NIC and 6 USB's. Would
it matter if all the USB's shared the same IRQ? Really the
ancient design of the IRQ system is showing when you try
to do anything fancy..
Anybody have any pointers?
