Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6

Can anyone tell me what this message means and if it represents something I should try to fix:
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:10000@f2000000 for 0000:01:05.0

I see the same question asked and not really answered in this old thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=479864
But since that is a "Fedora - Installation" thread and I'm using Mepis (and think it is a hardware question anyway) I'm starting a new thread.

That message is the first readable message on the display as the kernel starts (which is surprising, since kern.log has a lot above it).

That device is my second display adapter and seems to be functioning normally. But I haven't yet tried any OpenGL nor anything else needing more than basic operation of the display. Here is its section of lspci -v
Code:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV5M64 [RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro] (rev 15) (prog-if 00 [VGA])
	Subsystem: VISIONTEK Unknown device 0002
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10
	Memory at ea000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=16M]
	Memory at f8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [disabled] [size=32M]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 1
	Capabilities: [44] AGP version 2.0
The f2000000 part of the error message has changed as I've made various configuration changes (including rebuilding the kernel). It is
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:10000@fa000000 for 0000:01:05.0
in the oldest kern.log I kept (from before I started changing anything). But the message is always there.
