PCI cards not seen

I've suddenly started having problems with my PCI slots on a Gigabyte GA-6VTXE motherboard. I've had to move my network card around in order to get it working and my sound card is no longer seen either. It doesn't show up in lspci. All this stuff worked last night before I shut down the computer. Any suggestions? I've considered flashing the bios, but the problem I'm encountering isn't listed as one of the bugfixes.

have you tried booting into another os to see if its the os or the hardware? I'd suggest a knoppix cd. Mine comes in handy all the time.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. Knoppix didn't detect and set up the sound correctly (but it's probably worthwhile having downloaded it anyway) and "lspci" revealed nothing. I guess I'll flash my BIOS tomorrow, unless any more suggestions come up.

if a lspci revealed absolutely nothing, I'd worry about hardware failure. Perhaps the mobo. I dunno. Did knoppix detect any other pci cards?

It detected my network card. My network card is plugged into the only working PCI slot (which took me a while to find). My AGP slot also works.

so its been pretty much narrowed down to hardware faliure then...

Flashed the bios, but the problem persists. So I guess its time for a new mobo :(. Oh well, it was upgrade time anyway.

I'd highly suggest a Gigabyte or FIC board. Nothing but good things from them.
