Pci Card Issue
Hey guys...
I have a computer that I use to learn linux. But I've been having a funny problem. I've been inside computers before, I have a basic understanding of what I'm doing.
The computer that I'm using is an older emachines. 1ghz processor, 512mb syncdram, an ethernet card, 20gb hdd, floppy drive, cd drive.
I picked up a wireless card yesterday, and to make sure I had enough slots... I took out the ethernet card. After I put the wireless card in, there was a big shock and my motherboard caught on fire in like 3 different places... don't know how to fix this, I think I should have turned the computer off first, but now I'm having problems.
That was a joke lol. The problem I'm having is that whenever I take the ethernet card out, even just leaving the pci card slot empty... my motherboard doesn't seem to boot (that's what I say because I don't know the technical term)
What I mean is, on a normal startup I'll turn on the computer and an emachines screen pops up, and the computer beeps... next it loads the hardrive.
Whenever there is no pci card where that ethernet card the "motherboard doesn't boot", the computer will turn on... just nothing happens. When I put the ethernet card back in, it all works perfectly.
Any guidance would be helpful, I've never heard of this hapenning before... Maybe it's some issue with the proprietary emachines crap, I really don't know.
