Hello!

Yesterday i was just playing some game on my computer when it just switched off, like if there was power blackout or something.
I'm using this computer for more than 2 or 3 years now, i think.
I don't know if it really had to do with a high load because of the game, since the computer already has been stressed more than that.

Maybe at first my specifications:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
1024 MB DDR-RAM
ASUS A7V8X-X Mainboard
ASUS AX800 (ATI X800 XT Platinum Edition)

As i mentioned i was just playing when suddenly the power of the computer went off. Monitor, boxes and all stuff kept going.
There is still a green LED in the mainboard which gleams,
as well as the LED of the network card.
But if I press the power button now nothing happens.
Sometimes, every few trys the green light below the power button flickers for a very short moment. Also a LED of the cooler lights up for a second. But that's pretty much all that still happens.
(This means the cooler isn't moving, u can't hear anything from the CPU or HD)

The only thing that i can imagine is that the Power Supply Unit is fucked up. But i don't really have a clue about hardware.
Can anyone tell me what could be the reasons for the behavior described above? What can I do to fix it? Maybe just installing a new PSU, if that's the source of error?

Get a new power supply and do not get a cheap one. Spend the money on a good model. Zalman, Enermax, Seasonic are great power supply brands. I have a Seasonic S12-430 (430 watts) that works very well and it is quiet.

I'm getting a 550W PSU for 35 Euro (like 46$) now.
Hope that will do it.

I got to know that my old PSU only had 350 Watts,
which is supposed to be exactly the minimum i need
with that graphics card, processor and so on.
So maybe i really just overcharged it after a certain time.

Again spend the money on a power supply like 100 US dollars (82 Euros) or more. Cheap power supplies do not have the power to provide sufficient power for systems these days.

Unfortunately i don't have money for an expensive one.
So when this damn PSU blews up as well i probably will be
reminded of what you said. lol

But before you spend money I would do some tests first. Try unplugging all devices - hard drives, floppy cd roms etc - leave only say keyboard and monitor plugged in then try to power up. You may find it could be a drive or other component that has failed.

I say this because I recently had to fix a friends pc after it refused to boot. We bought a new psu and then found that it was the floppy drive that had broken and was stopping the system booting.

Unplugged the data cable and it was fine.

Have you tried the reset button. I have a motherboard that won't boot after a power failure. You have to push the power on, then reset a couple of times... Some sort of bios bug... Just a thought...
