PC Express Cards Not Recognized

For some reason my Dell m1330 is having trouble with PC Express Cards in Ubuntu... I put them in an nothing.... No signs that they are recognized at all; checked all logs as well as lspci and nothing.... One weird thing is when I first installed patched MadWifi drivers my ubiquiti srx was recognized until the system was rebooted....

All cards are fine in Windows on the same system, so it may not be a hardware failure... Any ideas?

EDIT: tried modprobe pciehp. No worky :9(

Okay, if anyone has this problem I came up with a fix so far.... Just upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 and the newest stable kernel...

EDIT: after rebooting PC Express is broken again... WTF?

The only way to get PC Express cards to be recognized is to totally reinstall the O/S again after rebooting? WTF?

EDIT: came up with a fix and just thought I'd add it for anyone else experiencing these problems... pciehp has to be forced with some pci controllers:
modprobe pciehp pciehp_force=1

Perhaps a clever developer could force it by default after an initial fail....
