Question Patch/update/kernel module for Fantec LD-H35NSU2 NAS to get big file support?

Sometime ago I bought Fantec NAS (LD-H35NSU2) but didn't realize until I had it that it only supports up to 4GB files due to FAT32. Yes, you can store bigger files but then NAS acually split them into 4GB parts and makes them look via samba as big files. But when you want to edit, view etc. then first the file is copied to HD and then you can play around with it.

As the NAS is running Linux (don't know what kind of package there is) I was wondering has anyone been able to patch or update the kernel or been able to add new kernel module to have other file systems (ext2/3/4) supported than FAT32?
