I am getting really slow speeds using brasero. I think the speeds will be the same when if i was to use k3b as well. I have had issues with this in the past as well.

I have also checked around and found this thread which didnt really seem to apply in my case as it was when the chipset was just starting to be used. I also have issues with sound which the same chipset controls. is the chipset driver? if so can i load ata_generic live and try it?

I know the drive works. I have had speeds up to around 8x using linux in the past. however, this particular drive in 2 different machines has always ended up running really slow.
I have seen other threads here and elsewhere which I have not found a solution with. I was wondering if was something to do with wodim or something. I am kinda outa my depth with this and could use some help.

Try cdrecord or set writing speed to higher number while writing.

I have tried bumpig up the speed. As to cdrecord: I was told that its not being maintained as most distros are going with wodimm. Anyways, I will give it a try to see if thats the issue. I do think someone mentioned once that wodim and another tool cause conflicts with each other. Which would cause this problem.
