partition type


hi i am running mandriva 2005 and kde and it wont read my 200gig hdd in the kde disk manager but it will pick it up in the other manager where u can format. it will pick up and read my windows hdd and my other storage 80hdd in the kde disk manager. the only diffrence between them is my 200 is a dynamic and simple partition is this the problem and is there any thing i can do about it?
thanx hope fuly i have explained it well enought but being a noob to linux its kinda hard to rember the programs and explain them well enough.

you probably need to load the module that supports that particular type of fs. It does need to be enabled in the kernel though, either as a module or built into the kernel. If it's compiled into the kernel you wouldnt have to load a module, but it doesnt sound like it is compiled into the kernel. I'm not familiar with dynamic or simple partitions, can you run "fdisk /dev/hdX" on that drive and see what it reports as the partition type?

If it's the kernel doesnt have that fs compiled as an option you will need to recompile your kernel.

Hi Crazed_Ape,

I'm not sure if kde disk manager support partitioning 200GB HDD.

and I think fdisk only support up to 128GB HDD... you might want to used Partitions Magic 8 to partitions your 200GB hard drive.
