Parallel Port CD-RW

I've been searching around, but have not had much luck. I am running Mandrake 9.1 and trying to install a Backpack CD-RW on the parallel port. Been to the micro-soultions website and it is supposed to go like cake, but my system is not recognizing the hardware on the port. Any way to force the system to scan for hardware or is there a setting I'm missing, or am I just completely off base?

This might help to explain things:

Have you manually tried to load the bcpk driver?

No, I haven't tried a manual load. I was under the impression (mistakenly I see now) that the 2.4 kernel already had the drivers. Thanks for the link. I googled untill my eyes hurt and never found that site. I'll give the manual load a try.

Try (as root) modprobe bpck and then check dmesg to see if anything has happened. The module does exist in Mandy 9.1:
