Panel pc front keys not working with Ubuntu 16.04 + Openbox
Hello,
I have a problem with the front keypad of a panel pc (G3900 processor with 4GB of RAM). The front keypad has 5 keys: an On / Off key, two volume adjustment keys and two brightness adjustment keys.
My application runs on Ubuntu 16.04 with Openbox and, with this configuration, only the On / Off button works. Adjusting the volume and brightness do not work.
I did a test with a live Ubuntu 20.04 and the keypad works perfectly.
There is no specific driver supplied by the manufacturer to make the keypad work.
Do you have any suggestions on how to restore keypad functionality on 16.04?
Thanks
Claudio

I'd suggest you update to 20.04 which is LTS and since the functions you want work with it. Also, 16.04 has been unsupported since April, 2021 and will get no new updates.

We have already planned to update to 20.04, but at the moment we have to use the 16.04.
I tried using a 16.04 live and the panel keys are all working. So I think the issue is due to the configuration of Openbox.
I was able to create a workaround using the keyboard keys, but I prefer to have the system working properly.
Any suggestion about how the panel keys are managed?
Thanks
Claudio

I'm not exactly sure what keys you are refering to, but you can - fire up 'xev' in a terminal
- press the key
- take note of the appropriate keycode, e.g. XF86AudioLowerVolume
- use that code in rc.xml to trigger the appropriate action
