First, I would try using the cups browser interface. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it's quick.

Open your browser and go to http://localhost:631. To get into the administrative section of the page, you will need an admin password. The root password always works; if you are a member of the lpadmin group, you can use your own password. Then ask cups to scan for printers. If it finds your new printer, you can enter a name and other details for it and make it the default printer.

Code:
sudo pacman -S cups
Should get you started

For installing packages the format is
Code:
sudo pacman -S package_name
Have a look through the Wiki page here

You are using Arch and the Arch wiki is an incredible source

I was assuming he had already installed cups. You're right about the Arch Wiki. It's a treasure trove and not only for Arch users.

If you have an HP printer, then I'd advise installing HPLIP. You may even have it already, as most distros give it by default.

With HPLIP, you can install any HP device very easily and trouble-shoot if it misbehaves.
