The fan should be the same size of the heatsink but I'm explaining about the center of the fan. The center in several fans have a diameter of 1 inch (2.54 cm) or more. What this means there is a huge hotspot right over the chip. The YS Tech TMD series of fans has a small diameter in the center so there is very little hotspots. Also the Cooler Master Aero may look wierd but it also minimizes the hotspots in a heatsink.
