outfitting a desktop with IrDA hardware

I want to outfit my desktop with IrDA. The MoBo has all the required IrDA headers. I need the IrDA for lirc, so a USB dongle won't do. I have not been able to find anyone who sells a transmitter/receiver assembly in any shape or form.

I wonder if anyone here has some advice or pointer? A DYI project would be ok.
