also the reason i am trying to remove linux is it dont work for what i need, already tryed everything to get it to work for what i need but it just dont |
Hi,
to boot from a cd you may need to change the boot order in your bios. This can normally be done by pressing one of the function keys just after powering up the machine. There is likely to be some text on the screen including something like "<F12> for setup" or perhaps "<F10> for boot options". This should be completely unrelated to the operating system that you are currently running. Evo2. |
and by doing that just as its starting to boot will let me remove or add an os?
|
Hi,
by booting from an install CD you can install your new operating system, wiping the disk of the old one in the process. I suggest you read the install instructions that (should) come with the OS you are planning to install. Evo2. |

ok thanks very much i will try that and post if it works for me
|
ok i tryed that, and it toke me to a screen where i could boot from, but only showed linux 11 and recover mode and memory tests. i know the windows disk is good, its a new one not been used and nothing wrong with it, no marks or anything. so am i doing something wrong?

Did you check the boot order in the BIOS setup? (See evo's earlier instructions on this.)
The screen you are getting is from the boot loader on the hard disk |
what is the BIOS set up, i did the way he said, and it either takes me to a boot window where it shows what i said in my last post or it just shows the toshiba start window with little bars under each of the pic's at the bottom of the page

Hi,
how did you install OS you are using right now? Did you boot from a install CD? If so, follow the same procedure to boot the installer of the OS you want to install now. Evo2. |
my borther put this on for me, dont know how he did it, i dropped it off and went and did some running around. i have asked him how to do it and he dont know.

Hi,
if you can tell us the make and model of the machine we might be able to find (via a search engine) what the hotkey is to get to change the boot order. Evo2. |
it is a toshiba satellite
|
When the computer first boots up, you can hit a specific key and you will get into the BIOS setup page. The key will depend on the make of computer. If you watch carefully, you may see the instructions for this during the boot process. Otherwise, check the users manual, manufacturer's web site, or Google.
