Orinoco Wireless - FC2, freezes system whenever inserted.

Long time listener, first time caller. :)

I am having some difficulties with my Orinoco and FC2. I understand that there is a vast choice of sites concerning this issue, but, since I am rather new to the linux field, I don't understand what the heck they're talking about when they say "recompile kernel with newest..." and other similar prick-a-prack.

So, I was wondering, if someone (or many someones) of the mighty intelegent linux community would be able to help me with my problem.

I have tried leaving the card in during boot-up, but it freezes right after "activating pcmia [ok]" line, and although the cursor blinks it never goes on.
While in linux, its a whole different story, it freezes dead solid - leaving my no choice but to hit the power button.

Where do I go from here?
I'd like to request a translation into laymen's terms.

Danke,
B "Urban" D.

A slight change, lunux no longer freezes, during neither the bootup or while in the system. However, it doesn't recognize the card at all, 0 activity if I insert it.
I have tried setting a new wireless network, selecting wavelan_cs for the card, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?
