I have an Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card. Running Slackware 10.1 kernel 2.4.29.
The card works fine and gets the internet but I can't get it to scan for other networks. It justs connects to anyone it wants. I've read through a lot of tutorials and how-to's but they seem to be all for the 2.6 kernel. Is there anyway to get this card to support scanning? And if not, what card do you guys recommend that will work a lot easier?
What you mean "it can't scan network" ? What is the output of the command "iwlist [your_wireless_interface] scanning"? What drivers are you using?
It's a bit unclear, tell us what you tried/want to do.
There is some other cards, but before trashing this one, you should try to use driver external to kernel. I found wireless drivers in kernel buggy, broken and highly inadequate. If you card if prism2 (all orinoco are if I remember right?) you should give a try to the hostap drivers. There is some chances that this one will work way better.
