Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Optimizing writes on a LSI megaRAID SATA-2

Does anyone have the juice on how to optimize for writes on a LSI megaRAID SATA-2. My system is a Dual Athlon 2400 MP /with 1Gig RAM. I have the LSI card in the 66MHz 64-bit PCI slots, so the card is running 66MHz 32-bit --- verified with lspci. I'm using an 2.4 SMP kernel. I'm seeing sustained writes of about 15Megabytes/sec using the dt program. I'm using 160GB Seagate 7200 SATA drives. The drives are not striped or mirrored. Yes I realize striping should increase performance. I'm using this box as a TIVO system. Worst case I want to write 2 mpeg streams to the disk while reading an additional stream back -- IO intensive.

I will post hdparm stuff tonight after work.

I added the following to /etc/rc.local. I know SATA-2 is udma6, but the dt test shows no difference from default boot parameters.

hdparm -Xudma2 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hde
hdparm -Xudma2 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hdg
