OpenGL for S3 SuperSavage IX?

I've been searching for weeks now and I finally decided to break down and ask the experts. Here's my situation: I have a toshiba laptop with a built-in S3 SuperSavage IX. I'm running MEPIS Linux with the MEPIS-X upgrade (4.3.0-5), on a P4 1.4Ghz with 256MB RAM. For some reason, I can't seem to get any form of OpenGL to work, and no matter where I look, there doesn't seem to be any drivers, nay even any discussion of this video chipset among linux gurus. MEPIS installs the NVIDIA drivers by default, and then when I upgraded the X-server it downloads what looks like the mesaGL drivers, but I still get "Missing extension "GLX" on display 0:0" whenever I load any program from the terminal, whether it require openGL or not. Does anyone know if there are any drivers for S3 cards under linux? If not is there some other workaround to get GL support? If my hardware description was not complete enough please let me know I'll be happy to provide whatever information whose relevancy escaped me.

Did you find out how to use opengl with this chipset? I've also got it and would be happy to use it, too. Did you look at x.org s fork of xfree?
