Only y-axis works -- Logitech wireless

My brother has an lx700 logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. But the mouse only moves on the y axis (up and down). I googled it before and found the problem and fixed it but I cannot for the life of me find the same post. Does anyone know where I should start looking for an answer? Or a link to a thread similar?

Thank you,
Fourthbean

I installed kubuntu in place of slackware and the mouse is working.
