One Burner Will Not Burn At Full Speeds

I have never had this problem before.... all of a sudden my Lite-On 52X32X52 drive will not burn at the full speed... and when it does finish burning the FIFO buffer is empty X number of times therefore the disc does not burn correctly. While my other drive Sony 40X CD 16X dvd burns both CD's and DVD's fine. They are both on the same IDE chain. Any ideas?

Thanks

Brandon Bell

Do you use cdrecord, and what options do you use with it? burnfree and similar technologies are usually only available when burning as root (since they require realtime priority).

Also, check the media to see if it is compatible with the your max burning speed.

I do use cdrecord under k3b. Burning as root or my normal user does not matter. The media I use is indeed 52X. As about a week ago, everything worked fine. But yesterday everything went screwy with just that one burner. The Sony ROM works fine for both CD's and DVD's still. And burnfree does not seem to help on the Lite-On ROM
