Onboard sound card? Alsa

I cant get my sound to work. I run alsa mixer and it finds a card. At startup it tells me my card might be muted and I should run "alsamixer" and then alsa"i forget" to save the changes. When I type alsamixer, I get: "no mixer elams found"

Im not sure what this means or what to do about it. I searched the forums and came up blank. If there is already a thread on this, you can just link it. Thanks.

try alsaconf as root

ye then run alsamixer and use "alsactl store" to save your settings

wee

I can run, and I ran alsaconf

But even after I do run it, and choose a card, I cant run alsamixer. It says no elams found. WTH is an elam? Also, when I run alsa config it asks if I want to add modules? Do I? I always say no.

edit - if it helps, my mainboard has the "VIA VT8753(P4X266) Northbridge" and "VT8233 Southbridge" that support "AC 97 audio codec" and provide "Ultra DMA 33/66/100" function.

Thanks

You could try a different mixer. I believe there is one as part of the KDE package if you use that

I use dropline gnome

You could try aumix http://www.jpj.net/~trevor/aumix.html

I think I installed it, but I dont knwo how to run it? Anyone? Or if you can solve the alsa problem, that would work. I still dont know what an Elam is or why I dont have them.
