The driver is called "sis", it is already in your distro (man sis) ... to use it, you have to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf however, I understand that hardware DRI is not available for your chip.

Read through:
http://www.winischhofer.net/sisdri.shtml
... for advise setting up the sis driver and sisfb.

Like this:

sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original
sudo geidit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Look for the device entry for your card... it wil probably have a line like
Driver "vesa"

Change "vesa" to "sis"

... easy.

Read the xorg.conf man page...

AFAIK, there is no HW DRI support for your card with open source drivers. There are no closed source drivers. There is no project to produce 3D accel either as the manufacturer has refused to release the specs.

The link in post #2 is the definitive site about this... I could be wrong.

I suggest either a different card be installed (nvidia) or using 2D accel for eyecandy (Enlightenment DR17 desktop-shell for eg.)

Beryl won't go at all... 3D games will be slow and flicker a lot.
Mesa supports software DRI if you want to try it.
