onboard NIC works only in one situation?

I have been having the weirdest problem: the NIC that is incorporated into my motherboard has been acting very strangely. I have a Shuttle AK32VN mobo with a VIA chipset. When I plug the NIC directly into the cable modem, I get a new address and am able to work fine. However, when I plug this same NIC into a port on my Linux router, nothing; and when I mean nothing, I mean no hardware-level link LED activity whatsoever. I know the router NIC works fine as I am using it right now (I threw another NIC in this box and it works like a charm).

I was just wondering: has anyone ever run into this before? I'm guessing it's some hardware malfunction.

Nevermind, my mobo just went out on me this morning, so I'm guessing it was just hardware malfunction.
