Onboard audio what does it mean?

What does onboard audio mean? Does it mean sound comes with the MOBO? How is this sound usually (the quality)? Do I still have to get a soundcard and speakers then? Can I plug my headphones somehow into the mobo?

Yeah,it means your mobo comes with sound, you don't need to get an additional soundcard. The quality is good enough imo and it helps to save on cost when building a new box.You can plug your speakers or headphone just like a regular sound card.

Sorry <Offtopic> Hitokiri_X, Where did you get that SWEET skin for XMMS? Do you know of any general anime skin sites? That's a really nice HxH one and I'd kill for ones of similar quality </Offtopic>
Yeah, Onboard Audio isn't anything too negative. The one I have, SiS 7012 is kinda bad, it took awhile to get working on Slackware (it HATES alsa) but I've got it up and running now.

But i still need speakers then? If I don't need speakers, that means the sound comes out from inside the case!? LOL?

You still need speakers. Onboard sound means the sound card is integrated into the motherboard. The connections are still the same as a PCI card. Just look at the back of the unit.
