on board 3 com ethernet card install problems

I am new to the Linux world.

I installed Red Hat 9 dual booting with windows XP.

It did not recognize the onboard Ethernet Card or the onboard Sound card.

The CD that came with the motherboard (ASUS P4P800) has linux drivers for the NIC and the sound card.

My question is, where do I put these files and where do I expand the zipped files to? Is there a particular directory to put them into?

Thanks in advance for your help

hmm. before trying that, there's one possibility i would check first. i have onboard ethernet and sound too, and linux wouldn't recognize them until i disabled APCI in my BIOS. once i did that it was fine.

i'm not gonna try and give you directions for installing the drivers cause i'd probably just confuse myself and ruin your day ;) i'm sure someone else can if you need it though.

Nah, the 3com 2000 card isn't in the kernel just yet. There's a source package available directly from the Asus website... (you will need to install your kernel source) also poke around here a bit, there's a 300 post thread about this card already.

Cheers,
