Old Samsung laser printer install

Lenovo M82 MX Linux Samsung ML-1710 laser printer

Printer works -- printed test page by holding button on printer.

Used the MX printer utility to id the printer but does not print from the computer. I installed the uld driver file, but still no printing. If I've done this correctly the results of two commands should be showing the status.

Danceman@M82:~
$ lpstat -t

Any CUPS errors logged?

Code:
egrep -iA3 "filter|error" /var/log/cups/error_log
You may need to increase the CUPS reporting verbosity first...
Code:
sudo cupsctl --debug-logging
Then send a print job and examine the error_log file.

See this link.--> http://openprinting.org/printer/Samsung/Samsung-ML-1710 and this link -->https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/samsung-ml1710/

Both suggest the splix package has the driver for the ml1710. Apparently, the old drivers from Samsung do not work on all distros.

The splix package is available for most distros. I don't use MX-linux so I'm not sure if it available form their repos. If it is, install it.

Open up cups, and configure the printer there. If you need help with cups, ask away.
