Old printer/scanner driver issue
Hi, I didn't know if I should post this in noob section or here since this is a hardware related question. I have a Lexmark x4850 that was just given to me. I know the machine works, but it doesn't for me. I am using Zorn 9 as my os, since most of the people in my household are familiar with windows. I can find my printer with lsusb:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 043d:010c Lexmark International, Inc. Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 005: ID 045e:076d Microsoft Corp. LifeCam HD-5000 Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04b3:310c IBM Corp. Wheel Mouse Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub I just cannot seem to get it to print. I searched around the net and found that this printer doesn't have a linux driver. The problem with this search is that the information I found was very outdated (2009). Has anyone got this printer to work on linux (if so how); or should I just give it back and by a new on (hp)? Thank you Jonnynitro138 |
jonnynitro138,
Lexmark printers have a poor reputation with regard to Linux. Give it back and get an HP printer. |
Hi...
As beachboy has indicated, there doesn't seem to be a driver for your particular model so it's very unlikely you will get it working in Linux. Your best option is to get an HP printer that is is supported by HPLIP. As to which model, please do your research very carefully. ;) You can ask here in the forum if you want to confirm a model that you're interested in... Regards... |
Thank you
I am returning the printer.
Thank you for your time in helping out. Jonnynitro138 |
