Question old hard disk


I have a old hard is a Quantum Maverick ProDrive 540MB 1049 cyl, 16 heads, 63 sect and don't work on linux kernel 2.4.x and 2.6.x.
in some part of the config of the kernel say some for old disk on hda and i compiled the kernel with this, but not work.

some help please.

Even though the drive is old it is still uses an ATA interface. I do not think you need to include you need to include them in the kernel. Did you try accessing the drive using the stock kernel?

I try recompiling kernel and passing parameters to kernel
hda=1049,16,63 hda=nodma hda=noprobe ide0=noautotuning ide0=noprobe

and don't work, in dos work fine.
the bios detect fine 1049,16,63

before compiling in:
make config
just in the drivers for ide/ata say something for old ide drives and i enable it

who is a stock kernel?
from some distro
i download the kernel linux-2.6.10 from kernel.org and compiling with gcc 3.4.1

By stock I mean the default kernel from the orginal install.
