Mobo
@gdmellot
Thanks a lot for your reply I really apreciate it. In my case (computer case that is) that backpane part is one with the case - it's not seperate. Therefor it can not be moved at all, not that i didn't try to push it down a bit - won't give a 1/4 millimeter.
I also tought of using some of these plastic disky things (i don't know what they are called in english - the round flat ones with a hole to put under a screw's head) to raise the mobo a bit, but then i don't have any of them and don't know where to get them either - only metal ones, and i don't want to cause any shorts. Also it would be a hell of a lot of work.... and to be honest, i don't open my machine THAT often
Maybe some glory day i will buy a new case anyway - i have recently seen some very good looking ones from Enermax, and since i have a PSU of that brand i trust in tgheir quality. Plus, it's silver originally and looks plain, the way i love computers to look. Most important for me is four 5 1/4 inch bays, because if i change the case, i will also make the second HDD a fix mounted one with one of these grille-type fan coolers in front of it. Plus the two optical drives - well, it requires four slots Also having front USB wouldn't be bad, i helped myself to that with a hub glued to the side of the case
Try CyberGuys for hardware assembly kits. What you get seems to vary with time. There may also be more than one kit available. The latest we got, some months ago, had the longer standoffs. They had the common course thread and were about 1mm longer or 1/4" long vs about 3/16+" with a very long fine thread for attachment. You can call them, they have an 800 number. A packet of paper washers and the two sizes of pin jumpers were also in that one, among other things.
A new case I just purchased had some odd characteristics. All the cards were held down with a common clip. (You see it in the back view of the item where they sell it. It stands out from the rest of the back. Also, the backplane seemed to be closer to line with the back of the 5-1/4" slots. This made the large size MB come in conflict with installing a CD or DVD, ect. if anything on the MB stood barely above the PC board in that area.

hmmmmm.......
Hello again
Thanks again for your reply and your help However neither the 800 number nor the ability of this firm to supply the parts would help me..... i am unfortunately not only in a different country, but on an entire different continent Hello from South-East Asia, Bangkok, Thailand I believe they would eventually still send me the kit if i had a credit card for some online payment - yet non-U.S. citizens often don't have those So me, no CC, no online payments... screwed, kind of.
However my machine is working fine now, next week or so i will get two more Kingstons and then let's see..... 1.5 gig of RAM should be enough for anything i have installed, and maybe i can manage to get a Thoroughbred type of CPU from someone somewhere some day..... then i have truly maxed out the motherboard's abilities, and that day i just sit back and relax.......... because i am not entering the fad "mine is faster than yours", i will just say "but mine is fast enough for me" and smile........
