Oh Brother (2040), where art thou?

Hi,

I'm having trouble installing a Brother 2040 with cups on Slack 10.2 with default kernel. Here are the symptoms:

lsusb shows the printer connected normally.

If I try to set up the printer with KDE's control center, it does not find the driver for the printer (I put the ppd in in /usr/share/cups/model as per the Brother website.)

If I try to set up the printer through localhost:631 the setup seems to go fine, the driver is found, I can stop and start the printer and send it a test page which seems to run fine. The only problem is that no data actually goes to the printer. The printer light doesn't even blink once. Never-the-less the job shows as completed.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Brian

I've got the same printer and was unsuccessful in installing the 64-bit driver under Suse 10.

Have you tried selecting a different Brother printer? I've selected the driver for the HL-2060 and it seems to work fine.

I'm not trying 64 bit. I'll try the 2060 driver anyway and let you know how it goes.

Thanks,
Brian
