Nvidia XFree86 Driver Nastiness

Tiring of SuSE's greenyblueness, I installed debian in order to learn Linux proper. When I type startx at the command prompt, I get the "No Screens Found" error. I am trying to install the NVIDIA drivers, and when doing a "make" on the NVIDIA_kernel thingy, it aborts because it can't find a file called "modversions.h" (it looks for it as "linux/modversions.h"). Help?

Ok! I fixed that, by installing the 2.4.18 kernel header package on dselect and symlinking /usr/src/(header file) to /usr/src/linux/(header file). But... now I get an error message saying "Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.o" Any ideas? I tried opening it with vi but all I got was a whole mess of crap.

Try doing "depmod -ae".
