Nvidia-settings errors

well I am trying to Configure TV out for my ubuntu 7.1 desktop with an AGP nvidia Gefore440MX how ever receive this error whenever i try to run nvidia settings:

Code:

ERROR: NV-CONTROL extension not found on this Display.





ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA GPUs on ':2.0'.





ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA Frame Lock Devices on ':2.0'.





ERROR: Unable to determine number of NVIDIA VCSCs on ':2.0'.

Any help on this?

nVidia has its own forums which are invaluable for these types of issues: Instructions for posting problems onto the nVidia forum

Please follow those instructions as best you can, you will get better luck that way.

I did notice that the second error refers to display ":2.0" which makes me think that is not the main display. Provide the nVidia forum information on the display by running

Code:

xdpyinfo -display :2.0

and posting the output to that forum.

thanks for advice! I figured the 2.0 had something to do with, i am still a n00b so i can only guess problems and not fix them. I suspect it has something to with the my card agp? not pci, or even pci-ex? any guesses?

I really, REALLY hate to suggest this, but perhaps you would consider getting an upgrade to a newer card? I'm very happy with my somewhat newer video card (GeForce 7950 GT), which is also an nVidia card, and I keep the driver up to date too.

But, if you want to pursue it further, the nVidia forum I pointed you to will provide you with much better advice than I can give.

What version drivers are you using ? Check the README on whatever one you're using to make sure your card is supported. According to nvidia:

You should be using the 96.43.xx driver.
