Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

nvidia on mdk 9.0

I am trying to install mandrake 9.0 and the installation goes smoothly until I reach the configuration for X-windows.
I have a toshiba 3005 -S304 and came with Nvidia geforce2 DDR graphic card.
I try to install the 16bits and the 24bits color it refuse to display an image when I test the configuration.
I try both the Xfree4.2.1 and the Xfree3.3.6 none of the display any image for the test.
I would like to know if I can install madrake without the X-configuration and install it afterward.

if it is possible, please tell me howto do it since I would not have neither kde nor gnome.

sincerely, kafnir

You need to install XFree86-4.2.1 and the nvidia linux drivers, ignore the "test" option, get the nvidia drivers in .tar.gz format and follow the instructions in the README file.

Yeah, some people have found that the 'test' option tends to create problems that don't really exist! If you select the option that best suits your hardware (X4.2.1) and don't test, you might find that it runs anyway. The drivers Aussie mentions are really good, and he's right - go for the source files. The readme file makes it very easy, so there's no reason, really, for not using the source.

Good luck.
