nvidia make their own cards?

Hi,

I know that ATI makes their own cards. Does nvidia?

I know that sapphire, asus, etc make clones of the ati chipset. But is this the same for nvidia?

Also I have heard people say they had problems with these clones, if you need something really, I mean really stable, would it be wise to just not get a clone?

Or if they don't manufacture their own cards, which would of the best quality?

Yup, it's the same for Nvidia. I have an Asus FX myself. No problems with it whatsoever. And I would avoid ATI cards if you plan on running them on Linux with acceleration. Nvidia chipset is the way to go ;)

so what is yup answering? Do they make their own cards? You could be saying yes or no.

I do already know that they have clones, do they have their own built cards? (not a clone like Asus)

What's up with the hostility?. I said yes, there are also clones for Nvidia. Or don't you know how to ask questions?

If the quality is the same or worse, it depends. Some clones don't have a fan, so the card works silently, but can't be over-clocked. Some has DVI support, other don't. The chipset is the same, it's Nvidia and end of story... and no, nvidia only provides the chipset if that's what you mean. Go to www.nvidia.com and check it out.

ok I didn't mean to have any hostility thanks for the links though.

Your reply could mean:

-no they don't have their 'own' cards but they have clones

-or it could mean yes they do make their 'own' cards but have clones as well.

'The same as' ATI could just mean that they do have clones too. But does not answer whether they make their 'own'

OK, I'm sorry too. Sometimes I take things too personal, I have to work on it :). I don't think aNvidia or ATI makes their own cards. They do just the chipset, as far as I know. And of course, support them with drivers and stuff. I could be wrong though, but I never have seen a card made by ATI or made by Nvidia. Again, I could be wrong.

So, hope we can forget this "little thing" we had and move along. It's a community after all :)

Regards!

No they don't.They make reference cards to show the manufacturers how they want it done but those are only for reference and don't get sold. They show up at previews for new GPU's once in a while.

ATI makes their cards. nVidia does make some cards but usually they are are higher price and rare to find. ATI cards has two stickers. One that says "Built by ATI" and the other is "Powered by ATI." ATI has anounced a few months ago that they will only distribute their GPU to OEM and not make any of their own cards. nVidia distributes their chips to OEM although nVidia puts strict regulations on OEM to make the drivers work with the cards. Some manufactures do not take the time to improve the ATI reference models, so they just sell those instead.

BTW, this thread should be in the general forum unless you have hardware problems that needs fixing.

Opps sorry. Didn't look @ it that way. Thanks electro.
