nvidia hardware optimization and configuration

After installing the nvidia settings programs for linux (using arch distro), the options in it are not as extensive as they are on the driver configuration settings in Windows. I understand most of these settings on a Linux machine are in config files and etc. and not always exposed by frontends. Is there a good post or tutorial on these settings anywhere that is easily accessible. Only other option would be to go through probably volumes of documentation on this. Is that right?
