Angry nvidia gforce 2mmx & NEC Multisync A700 display problems

Ive tried reconfigurating x multiple times and just cant seem to get 1024x768 to display properly. It works fine at 800x600, but at 1024x768 the display is shown as if I where using a 15 inch monitor.
What Im saying is that at 800x600 x is displayed using the whole surface of the monitor. In 1024x768 it only used about 15 inches (of 17) of the monitors surface to display X.
I tried cranking up the horizontal and vertical settings on the monitor to get a larger display area. The problem there is that I cant turn up the vertical any further than it alreay is, but there is plenty more space to crank up the vertical.
Here is what is displayed ffor my monitor in Xconfig:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "NEC MultiSync A700"
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 31.0 - 69.0
VertRefresh 55.0 - 120.0
ModeLine "1400x1050" 129.0 1400 1464 1656 1960 1050 1051 1054 1100 +hsync +vsync
ModeLine "1400x1050" 151.0 1400 1464 1656 1960 1050 1051 1054 1100 +hsync +vsync
ModeLine "1400x1050" 162.0 1400 1464 1656 1960 1050 1051 1054 1100 +hsync +vsync
ModeLine "1400x1050" 184.0 1400 1464 1656 1960 1050 1051 1054 1100 +hsync +vsync
Option "dpms"
EndSection

basicly what the problem is:
at 1024x768 the 17 inch monitor displays at 15 inches without the ability to physically adjust it with the monitors display buttons.
Im not really worried anout getting the latest and gretest drivers for the gforce card sincer I dont really do much gaming, i jsut wanna get the monitor working.

you need the virtual screen option with the resolution settings I think. This should of come up in the new wizzy search (thanks jeremy ). so look for that, or look in the help files for the manual page for this.

Not in Linux at the moment so can't cut and paste across

Well fortunately for you I'm now at my box so here goes.

The virtual screen bit shoud look like this:
Code:
Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768"
        ViewPort 0 0
        Virtual 1024 768
    EndSubsection
That works for me

As for the man pages
man XF86Config

alright! well, its seems to be working just fine now, thanks to your help.
I redid the xf86config from scratch just to be safe and saved it to a floppy if I have problems again.

problem was now that the mouse wouldnt work. It was a logitec optical with a scroll button. I unplugged it from the usb and slapped a ps/2 adptor on it and it works okay now, just not with the scroll wheel. Im sure thta can be fixed pretty easily though, not a big problem.

thanks for your help!!

For the ps/2 mouse, in the INPUT SECTION of the XF86Config file, you need to change the protocol from ps/2 to IMPS/2 and then you need to add
Code:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
This is all over the forum but one more time won't hurt

HTH

Alex

P.S. You could try searching the forum for that mouse because I think someone may have asked something similar. There definately should be stuff for getting USB mice in general to work.
