Nvidia Geforce GT740 install driver boot no device no startx

Okay I know I'm adding probably more then is needed but what the heck. This is the hardest time I've had adding a NVidia Driver since starting to play with linux back during Mandrake days. Anyway I loaded the driver but could not get it to take. Kept coming back with a version already installed, tried to uninstall and look for files associated with that version. Finally I just loaded an updated Kernel which loaded the driver and all seems fine. Went to the graphic nvidia-xconfig utility, asked if I wanted to do something in X and I pushed the add button and rebooted and nothing no X no startx could only get back in when manually changing to my onboard card and unplugging NVidia card. When booting came back with errors due to no hardware or screen found. Have read I need to disable Nouveau and looks like I need to manually remove "vesa" and "fbdev" and "dri" and "GLCore" and add "glx" in xconfig. Does this sound about right or is there another way. I really want the supported NVidia Driver loaded and not the one in the package managers. Using PC Linux.synaptic Anyway hopefully I can get some help on this.
Thanks ahead of time......

Did you download the correct driver for the Nvidia card?

The logs say, that the inbuild intel graphics card is enabled - maybe disabling it, solves the problem.

let's do this properly.
please open a terminal and enter this command:
Code:
lspci -k | grep -iEA5 'vga|3d'
and copy-paste its complete output, incl. the command itself, here, between code blocks (see my sig).

so you are trying this on pclinuxos? which major distro is it based on, what package management?

The NVidia card is installed but not plugged in. It won't boot with the power plugged in.

no nvidia card is recognized by your system.

you mean it won't boot, or you can't get a graphical desktop???

also, my previous question:

edit:
not that that matters if it's a hardware problem.

and please use code tags for code.

PC linux is a spin off of Mandravia or Mandrake I believe. It uses Synaptic as package manager,
but I think it also uses RPM..

Yes youre right the graphic card is installed in the mother board but unplugged from power. When
it boots with it plugged in I cannot get to a GUI desktop. I have to log in the old fashion way.

What graphical desktop is installed?

Can you use the live mode of another Linux distro? like Ubuntu or similar.

Do you have nvidia-xconfig installed? YOu may need to get that to write to your xorg.conf to start using the card. Then use the nvidia-settings program from within your desktop environment to do anay tweaking.
At lease, that's how I used to get NVIDIA cards working (I think the one in my current desktop just worked because it's the only graphics card in the machine.).

Had to hand write this response because I have no way of copying and pasting.

Code:
01:00.0 VGA Compatible Controller Nvidia Crop. GK107 [GeForce GT 740]
rev a1
01:001 Audio device Nvidia Corp GK 107 HDMI Audio Controller rev a1
Kernel driver in use snd_hda_intel
Also I have installed Ubuntu and the Nvidia is working great thanks to their driver menu's.
But I really want to use this graphics card in PC Linux,thanks....

One other thing the Ubuntu had a menu that found the proprietary driver and installed the most current driver.
Still gives me the choice to go to the package managers driver also. I like that option...

I really want to load the proprietary driver from Nvidia on PC Linux. I like Ubuntu but I just have so much
on my PC Linux that its important for me to get that running.

Thanks in advance....
