nvidia geforce 4 mx 440
I've been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for a long time and it's really starting to annoy me.. I've done a bunch of searching and found the problem many times, but no answer. After installing the latest drivers by nvidia when I boot X everything works fine.. glxgears runs good, I can run doom 3 and everything works fine.... but as soon as I log out of X I can't read anything on my screen. All there is, is a bunch of little boxes. I know it isn't frozen, because I can type "startx" and it reloads and works fine.. or I can shutdown... I just can't read anything that is on the screen.

If anyone can help me solve this so that I can read the console when I log out I would be very greatful. thanks in advance

try downgrading to the previous nvidia driver release...

1.0-6629 (currently the latest) has some issues which don't appear on 1.0-6111...

look at this thread to see what i mean:

just my two cents...
