NVIDIA FX5200 and Console Framebuffer
I recently bought a FX5200 card and my bootsplash has gone. Now I only can boot with "vga=normal" specified in either Grub or Lilo. Both Slackware and SuSE cannot load the vesafb support at boot. Slackware boot messages are reporting an error numbered "-6", when trying to load vesafb, and SuSE doesn't report any problem at all, but when I try to run links web browser using the fb driver, it complains of the lack of framebuffer support. I set the right permissions in /dev/fb0, but to no avail. It seems the framebuffer is there, but isn't working.
X is working fine. How I can solve this situation? NB.: I had the same problem this guy had with another NVIDIA card (GEFORCE4 MX 4000): http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/5/28/19, but it seems that FX5200 is having another kind of problem on my computer, because I don't use the TV OUT connection. |
Precise your graphic card model
If it isn't Vesa 2.0 compliant, you must add vesa 2.0 extension to it by usiong TSR - terminate and stay resident program, or try install ing XF86_FBdev driver for vesafb or try installing a new kernel and configure after typing make xconfig : go to Console Drivers and enable everything ( vesa driver, |
Thanks
My brother has the same card and the framebuffer is working properly. Also he's using the same kernel. I think there is some wrong configuration in my BIOS, but I can't figure what it could be.
Thank you for your suggestions. :) |
