Nvidia drivers/installation help
I feel like an idiot. I have not yet been able to figure out how to install the nvidia drivers from the nvidia site yet. Im running FC3 with a GeForce2 MMx 400 64MB vid card, 512 Mb ram. I dual boot using Grub between FC 3 and Win XP. I cant find xorg.conf, just think Im looking in the wrong places. The drivers state that I have to turn of the GUI and have FC3 boot into cl mode were I can then install the vid driver. I swear, I'd not be asking if I wasn't way lost now. Any help would be appreciated.
Nemy

xorg = /etc/X11/xorg.conf
to get into non-X mode, run "init 3" in a terminal and then quit X. this change will not persist after a reboot, don't worry.

Yes, like acid said, xorg.conf is usually located in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
From the command line you can edit it using vi:
vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
BTW, this helped me a lot:

i have the same GFX card and the same driver from nvidia there should be a readme file or something in the file you downloaded when i get home to my own computer i will t\give you step by step instructions to installing the driver
there are to steps
the first is you have to be running in failsafe mode (without anything running just the console no desktop or anything) and type in a comand line and then follow the on screen instructions then you can enter the desktop and type something else in the comand line to install the driver and get it ready for running upon next boot
i have the command lines you have to enter at home i will get them to you a soon as i can

the command lines are
in failsafe mode (usually a dual boot option just hit that when you see grub)
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run -q
(or whatever the file name of the driver is)
then after that follow the onscreen instructions
after it has completed installing the drivers type
sax2 -m 0=nvidia
and this should work if not i dont know whats wrong

i wasn't aware of this but this is an easier way of getting into failsafe runlevel use this one its much easier
"to get into non-X mode, run "init 3" in a terminal and then quit X. this change will not persist after a reboot, don't worry."
but now that i think of it the sax command might not work, you arent running suse
does FC3 still have sax?
