NVIDIA drivers crashing computer
I have an old RivaTNT2 card in this computer running debian.
I dl'd and installed the newest and second to newest (in case there was a problem with the newest) nvidia display drivers. I did a modprobe and reconfigured xserver to use the nvidia display server. as x starts it crashes my computer. I can't even change consoles. The computer still runs so maybe crash isn't the right word.. it locks up all display ability. If anyone knows anything that might help I would appreciate it. |
Are the drivers and the kernel compiled in different major versions of gcc?

I got this to work by booting off a suse 8.2 live cd and copying the working x config go figure huh

The nvidia documentation mentions that the Riva driver conflicts with that framebuffer driver. Maybe that's what happened?

It's covered in this thread over on the nvidia bb: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...t=CC%3Dgcc2.95 FYI, the latest Nvidida drivers are a major improvement. They actually got rid of that annoying cycling bug that would occur as X started up. |
been there done that
First thing I do after a debian install is download the new kernel sources (which include the headers) and compile a new kernel. so yeah it was all doen with the same librarys.. thanks for trying though.. I got the nv drivers to work.
